Once again, Haileybury has been named Primary School of the Year – Non-government at this year’s prestigious Australian Education Awards.
Once again, Haileybury has been named Primary School of the Year – Non-government at this year’s prestigious Australian Education Awards.
This is the sixth time that Haileybury has won this specific award and we are extremely proud of all the teachers, staff, students and families who have contributed to this significant achievement.
Each year, the Australian Education Awards recognise Australia’s most creative, committed and thought-leading schools and educators. This latest award, presented in Sydney on Friday 8th August, continues Haileybury’s long history of success at the event.
Being named Primary School of the Year in the non-government sector for the sixth time reflects the importance that the School places on the earliest years of a child’s educational journey, says Vice Principal Community Engagement & Advancement, Scott Doran.
“Once again, this award recognises the brilliant teachers who are an essential part of a Haileybury primary education. It also celebrates the evidence-based teaching programs that are integral to every student’s progress and success,” says Scott.
“The primary school years are the beginning of an educational journey and creating the right classroom environment, with the right teachers, triggers a love of learning that lasts a lifetime. ”Scott Doran
“Our primary school classrooms spark curiosity, encourage young minds to explore and support our youngest students to try new learning experiences – and this happens for every student, every day.”
Haileybury’s primary programs are founded on research and best practice and support children to thrive academically and personally, build resilience and enjoy learning.
Every lesson has a focused intention and success criteria with teachers regularly assessing progress and providing feedback to students and their families. This ensures each student is fully supported and challenged to keep moving forward in their learning.
Haileybury’s respected Explicit Teaching Model, based on ‘I Do, We Do, You Do’ enables teachers to show children what they are learning, how to do it and why they are learning it. This embeds skills and confidence, says Grenville Green, Deputy Principal (Junior School).
“The effectiveness of Haileybury’s Explicit Teaching Model has been shared with teachers and school leaders across Australia and internationally to help young learners outside of Haileybury’s classrooms to build better literacy and numeracy skills,” says Grenville.
Reflecting the power of our Primary School programs, each year Haileybury Primary School students achieve well above national average NAPLAN results.
Students also enjoy access to a range of subjects and events – from Visual Arts, Chinese, PE and Computer Science to taking part in the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee, the Australian Mathematics Competition, and collecting coats for the Off Your Back winter coat drive which is one of the School’s Social Justice initiatives.
“We’re very proud of our Primary School because it fosters a love of learning, it encourages students to be curious about the world around them and it gives young learners confidence and the tools they need to thrive as they journey through our school,” says Grenville.
Haileybury was also a finalist in the Secondary School of the Year – Non-government category while Haileybury Pangea, our online campus, was a finalist in the Innovation in Learning Environment Design category.
Haileybury Rendall School in Darwin was a finalist in three award categories: Best First Nations Education Program, Primary School of the Year – Non-government and Regional School of the Year.
