The Haileybury program is tailored to each educational stage and builds resilient and independent learners with a strong work ethic and critical skills in decision-making, leadership and enterprise. Everything that we do is centred around our Magenta principles, striving for and achieving more than expected.
Haileybury students graduate as well-rounded young citizens with a love for learning, prepared for life on the global stage and with the drive to be active members of society.
Social justice is a cornerstone of the Haileybury Program. For students it creates awareness of their community and their own self-worth. We all benefit from living in a just society—one that supports the law and human rights and where everyone is valued as an equal member.
Students can join a range of campus-specific activities that focus on human rights and equal opportunity and each campus supports fundraising initiatives for charities. Over 30 charities benefit from the Social Justice Program each year.
At the heart of Haileybury’s mission is the commitment to develop high-achieving students who are connected globally to each other and to the communities in which they will serve. They are empowered to transform their world.
Just as importantly, we are firmly committed to the principles of fairness, equality and human rights and we believe we have a shared responsibility to contribute to positive social change, both locally and globally.
The Haileybury Social Justice Program focuses on respect, generosity, reconciliation, protection of the weak, forgiveness, expressions of gratitude, inclusion, sharing of resources and service.
We are proud to be committed to many initiatives across different areas of society and we provide support at club, House, campus and School levels. The Haileybury Social Justice Club supports organisations including The Salvation Army, Clean Up Australia Day and Walk for Justice for Refugees.
In 2023, our Haileybury Newlands (Keysborough) community got behind the charity Koala Kids, donating novelty band-aids for children who are going through cancer and other long term illness treatments, based in over 25 hospitals in Victoria and Tasmania.
Lyons House students put together donations for their House Charity, Share the Dignity, as a part of their #itsinthebag campaign. This campaign encourages everyday Australians to put together bags filled with essential items to donate to women and girls waking up in a domestic violence refuge or homeless shelter on Christmas morning.
Haileybury Edrington (Berwick) Middle School students made a splash while raising funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease. Students who bought raffle tickets and were lucky enough to have theirs drawn had the opportunity to dunk their teachers in the dunk tank or to pour a bucket of refreshing icy water over their heads.
Haileybury City Campus collected pre-loved coats for the Off Your Back winter coat drive. For over 20 years, Off Your Back has collected over 300,000 pre-loved coats that have been donated to those less fortunate around Melbourne.
Haileybury Castlefield (Brighton) proudly supports St Kilda Mums who partner with over 250 agencies, where they distribute essential baby items across Victoria, supported by donations, financial aid, and volunteers, ensuring families have everything needed to welcome their baby home.
Haileybury Newlands (Keysborough) Middle School hosted a Colour Run in 2023 to raise funds for the Nepal Nagarjuna School! The Colour Run has become an annual part of the Social Justice Program at Haileybury Newlands (Keysborough), and the students had so much fun getting colourful while supporting a community in need.
