Australian Regional School of the Year 2023 — that's us!
What a wonderful recognition of all we do — from ELC to Year 12, in and out of the classroom. This award was presented in Sydney at the Australian Education Awards on Friday, 11 August.
We qualified as ‘regional’ because we are not located in a major capital city and our application to reach the final list of nine schools recognised the key aspects of HRS that set us apart including:
- Professional, dedicated and collegial high-quality staff — both corporate and academic
- Award-winning ELC
- Top NAPLAN Junior School in the NT for the last two years
- Vastly improved Middle School NAPLAN results
- Outstanding NAPLAN results for remote and very remote Indigenous students
- VCE results showing 16% of students in the last three years have achieved an ATAR over 95
- Completion rates, retention and learning growth of Indigenous students against Closing the Gap standards
- Whole school approach to Health and Wellbeing of all students with extra support from health centre and counsellors
- Delivery of policies and processes that have no tolerance for bullying or harassment in any form
- Unique and successful boarding school with remote, local and international students
- Strong array of extra-curricular and sporting activities run by our staff
- Quality music and performing arts offerings and achievements
- Progressive and wide-spread VET opportunities run in and out of the School, and a variety of pathways for all students to achieve academic and post-school success
- A dynamic and important Reconciliation Action Plan and commitment to cultural competence development of all staff.
We also congratulate Haileybury Melbourne for winning Secondary School of the Year – Non-Government.
