A unique and wonderful place to teach
Our school is a unique and wonderful place to work. Since acquiring Kormilda College at the end of 2017, we have spent the past six years growing from 400 students to 950 students and bringing many talented and energetic staff on our journey.
HRS is now the largest and most successful independent co-educational school in the Northern Territory and a school of choice for great teachers from across Australia and the world.
We work as a community to fulfil the school’s mission: to develop high-achieving students who are connected globally, to each other, and to the communities in which they live and will serve. It’s professionally rewarding to work with dedicated staff who share the common belief that every student and every team member matters every day.
There are so many options to develop a teaching career at HRS. We have around 100 boarders living on-site — mostly Indigenous students from remote communities and we also support international students and domestic boarders. We are many cultures and one community who embrace diversity and learn about each other.
We also have some staff accommodation on site that new teachers can take advantage of while settling into Darwin life. For teachers relocating from interstate, we also offer allowances to support the transition, including flights and some other expenses.
Ongoing, relevant and meaningful professional development is a big focus for staff at HRS. Every Tuesday afternoon includes 90 minutes of sharing and learning on topics that align to our school goals and intentions. We also provide opportunities for staff to attend live and online conferences to further develop their knowledge and leadership skills. Our staff are our greatest asset, and we look after them.
We set high expectations for staff and students, and we know that brilliant teaching and strong relationships are fundamental to an engaging and rewarding learning experience for all. New HRS staff are supported via a detailed induction and mentoring process and graduates are given extra support and coaching and reduced face-to-face teaching time.
Across HRS, there are many leadership roles and opportunities and many career paths can be accelerated through quality service.
Teaching at HRS also means you become part of the massive, world-renowned educational system known simply as ‘One Haileybury’. Our Darwin staff visit Melbourne campuses and there is the possibility of connecting with Haileybury’s communities in China, the UK, Vietnam and Timor Leste.
The wonderful Darwin climate, healthy lifestyle and famous tourist destinations at our doorstep are also great reasons to come and work with us.
Importantly, we have great staff, fantastic kids and a strong positive community of family and friends who enjoy every moment of our exciting journey.
