Social Justice supporting the RCH
The majority of our City families have visited Royal Children’s Hospital for one reason or another, so this cause is very close to our hearts. We thank our City community for supporting the chocolate hamper fundraiser. Our Chief Operating Officer, Rebecca Arceri joined our final assemblies to draw the winning tickets. Congratulations to Charlie (Year 4) and Alicia (Year 6). Our ELC and Junior School raised $830.00 and our Middle and Senior School raised $1,555.00. Thank you to our Social Justice Captains who led this initiative with Karen Dobbyn, our Social Justice Coordinator. What a great result for the RCH!
HPF Community sparkles
As the sun set over the Melbourne City skyline, our City parents and friends enjoyed a beautiful evening of friendship, music, fun and laughter. Our guest speaker, Eve (Year 12), shared the inspirational message to always back yourself and take up the many opportunities available at Haileybury. Our Vocal Ensemble performed three amazing songs and the crowd were wowed. Our Vice Principal, Scott Doran, drew the Lucky Door Prizes and we were thrilled to have so many new families join our community. Our Cocktail Party in Term 3 is sure to be another great event, so stay tuned for details on the app. Thank you to Melissa Fisher and all the HPF reps for creating a wonderful experience full of sparkle!
Student Head Injury and Concussion Procedure
Haileybury is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of its students. As part of this commitment, the School has recently updated its Student Head Injury and Concussion Procedure to provide the highest level of care for students who have experienced head injuries that may have resulted in concussions.

Early Learning Centre
Creating plans in the ELC
As children continue to build connections and learn more about their peers, the concept of the Group Plan has recently been introduced in Reception. It supports children to connect with their peers socially and within the world around them.
Children have explored the idea that there are times when they can form their own plan — this may be in a game or group activity that others may choose to join in. At other times it may be necessary to join someone else’s plan.
This language also supports the daily routine within the ELC where there may be a whole group plan for an activity or group time.
The Pre-Prep children are building on these strong social foundations to begin their first ‘class project’ for the year. The Pre-Prep collaborative art project involves the children working together to create an airport dramatic play space, based on their interests of going on a holiday. They have created various signs like the check-in counter, customs, and the security checkpoint.
The project will develop fine motor skills, including pencil and scissor grip and manipulating different materials to enhance fine motor control and dexterity. The project also fosters communication and negotiation skills as children work together to develop a group plan.
Junior School
Year 4 Camp
The Year 4 students from Haileybury City had an exciting time during their recent Portsea Camp adventure! Brimming with enthusiasm and openness to new experiences, they eagerly embraced the chance to bond in a different environment, and the weather could not have been more spectacular.
Together, they explored a range of activities such as fishing off Portsea Pier, braving the giant swing, beach walks, snorkelling and a very competitive game of Ga-Ga Ball. Throughout the camp, the emphasis was on creating lasting memories and tackling challenges head-on.
Athletics Carnival Fun
On Wednesday, 27 March, the Junior School House Athletics Carnival took place, involving students from Prep to Year 4. Starting after Recess at the Collingwood Harriers Athletic Club in Clifton Hill, the event offered a variety of track and field activities for the enthusiastic participants to showcase the skills they have honed during their PE classes. The Carnival proved to be a resounding success, fostering a spirit of friendly rivalry as students competed for points to boost their House’s standing on the leaderboard. Adding to the lively atmosphere were the Year 4 House Captains, who brought House-themed accessories and spirited chants to the festivities.
And the winning House for 2024 was … Main House!
Preps visit the Year 8 Drama Performance
As part of the Children’s Theatre unit in Year 8 Drama: Collaboration to Creation at City, the Year 8 students worked alongside the Prep class on an audio-theatre experience. The Preps were led through a series of activities by the Year 8 students that required them to use their imaginations as they role-played being explorers. Over two extended lessons, the Prep students waded through rivers, sheltered in tents, climbed through caves and got stuck in lava as they tried to discover the whereabouts of the elusive mountain goat. Both the Year 8s and Preps had a wonderful time working together in a creative space and this cross-age educational experience has seen a strong bond develop between them all.
Middle School
House Athletics
Our Middle School students had an exciting day at the Athletics Carnival. It was fabulous to witness students come together, each contributing to a range of sporting endeavours. Thank you to Nick Fisher (House Convenor), and the Heads of House (David Powell, Holly Emslie, Alex Polly, and Georgia Hall) for coordinating an excellent carnival.
The House relays emerged as a standout moment, demonstrating the essence of House spirit and teamwork. As students raced across the track, the sidelines were filled with encouragement from fellow House mates.
We are immensely proud of every student who participated, embodying the values of sportsmanship and determination throughout the day’s events.
MS in action
It was a delight to extend a warm invitation to our Year 7 parents to actively participate in a classroom lesson alongside their young learners. At Haileybury, we cherish the opportunity to welcome parents into the very heart of their child’s educational journey, fostering a deep sense of connection and engagement with the learning environment that shapes their everyday experiences.
Throughout the day, parents had the pleasure of immersing themselves in both English and Maths lessons alongside their children, experiencing firsthand the dynamic learning spaces where our students thrive.
Louise Elletson – HALT Award
Haileybury is privileged to have an array of exceptional professionals who dedicate themselves to shaping the minds of our students daily. This term we celebrated the remarkable achievement of our very own Louise Elletson, who was acknowledged with the Highly Accomplished Teacher (HALT) award. This milestone serves as a testament to Louise’s exceptional dedication and expertise, duly acknowledged by Independent Schools Victoria.
Louise imparts her wealth of knowledge in the field of Science to our JS and MS students daily. She also provides our students with co-curricular opportunities, spearheading initiatives such as Tournament of Minds and Science Talent Search.
City extends its gratitude to exceptional educators like Louise, whose tireless efforts and unwavering dedication add greatly to the fabric of our City community.

Rooftop Party 2024
The Rooftop Party was once again a fantastic night, with perfect weather for making new connections and taking in the glorious Melbourne skyline from Haileybury City’s rooftop. The night was a sellout which is a lovely compliment to the HPF Committee and the Haileybury Executive who put in many hours of preparation. We hope you had the chance to build your friendship circle and enjoy yourselves.
Thanks again to Gabe Di Martino and his team for assisting with the set up and pack-up on the night. Also, a big thank you to Caroline and the Haileybury Exec Team who attended on the night. A special thank you to Scott Doran, to Eve , our wonderful Year 12 exchange student and to the Vocal Ensemble for their wonderful performance on the night.
Thank you to all the HPF Committee and friends who assisted on the night. From set up, to check in and check out, it all contributes to the success of the night.

Luna Park Family Night
After the success of this event in 2023, the combined HPF Luna Park night is happening once again on Wednesday, 17 April 5.00 pm – 8.00 pm. Entry tickets are free, but unlimited ride ($55.00) or non-ride tickets must be pre-booked. Please see the myHaileybury notice for all details.

Tickets for the Middle School Trivia Night to be held on Friday, 14 June will go on sale soon. Details will be through the myHaileybury app. Hint: It may be a good idea to brush up on your Haileybury general knowledge!
Second-Hand Uniform Shop
With the change in seasons, you may have realised it is time for a wardrobe clear-out. The form for selling items can be found on the myHaileybury app. Feel free to drop your items into the blue bins, located in the basement and King Street entrance, to sell at the second-hand uniform shop. The pop-up shop will be open towards the end of Term 2.
HPF Social Rep and Community Meeting
An open invitation is extended to all parents and carers to join the HPF Community meeting via Zoom on Monday, 29 April at 7.30 pm. These meetings are an opportunity to contribute to our school community, to get involved with events and to hear directly from the Head of Campus and Head of City Senior School. We would love to see you there.
