Social Justice at Haileybury Pangea
This term, led by our Year 12 Captains Madeline & Sean , Haileybury Pangea students elected to participate in a Clean Up Australia weekend, as a campus-wide social justice initiative.
Clean Up Australia weekend served as a poignant reminder of the collective responsibility we hold towards preserving our environment. Our Haileybury Pangea students and staff enthusiastically embraced this opportunity to contribute meaningfully to their local communities, demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship. Armed with gloves and rubbish bags, they ventured into parks, streets and beaches, diligently scouring for litter and waste.
Their efforts not only helped beautify their surroundings but also fostered a deeper sense of environmental awareness and responsibility. As they worked tirelessly to clean up their neighbourhoods, they also engaged in important conversations about sustainable practices and the importance of reducing waste. Clean Up Australia weekend was not just about picking up litter; it was a testament to the power of collective action and the profound impact we can have when we come together to protect our environment.
Middle School Pathways Courses
Early in Term 1, students in Years 5–8 commenced work on their Pangea Pathways courses for the term. Pathways courses encompass key curriculum areas including Art, Drama, Music, Computer Science, Entrepreneurship and Physical Education, and allow students to explore and develop key skills in these areas as they progress through the Middle School.
To ‘launch’ into these courses, which students complete over a term, expert teachers across these areas ran live workshops with students to introduce them to the Term 1 course concepts, generating curiosity and stimulating discussion amongst students as they commence the self-paced component of each course. These sessions also fostered collaboration between students, which has continued throughout the term.
We look forward to the upcoming ‘close’ workshops for these courses, where students will have the opportunity to share the work they have produced and receive constructive feedback ahead of their final submissions.
