It is my great pleasure to announce that Mrs Qi (Cathy) Zhengyang has been appointed as the new Head of Senior School at Haileybury Tianjin (HIST).

Cathy graduated from the English Department of Hebei University of Technology and later studied at Tianjin Normal University where she completed a Master's degree in English Language and English Literature.

Cathy has 12 years of rich experience in school management within international education. She has worked as an English teacher and as a director of English teaching and research groups. She has experience with university pathways, as an examination assessor and has worked in various principal assistant departments.

During her career, she has held positions at Tianjin No. 2 High School in its Cambridge International Examination Centre and worked at Tianjin University as Director of the A-Level Education International Centre. During her time there, Cathy made important contributions to the development and growth of A-level courses in Tianjin. In 2020, she won the 10-year Cambridge School Award on behalf of the school in Shanghai.

Cathy has just finished her tenure as Principal of Fayao School where she was responsible for the A-Level Program development, including student recruitment, staff induction, teaching, welfare management and university applications.

She is a qualified examiner of Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel, where she has organised official A-Level examinations and Cambridge examinations for 1,200 students. Furthermore, Cathy has taken part in oral Cambridge IGCSE English examinations and Edexcel Chinese oral examinations.

Cathy was recently invited to be a judge and tutor in a program designed to discover young English drama talent by Tianjin Science, Technology and Education Television.

The new Head of Senior School believes that the purpose of education is to cultivate lifelong learners. They should have self-confidence, a sense of responsibility and reflect on themselves often. She says the key responsibility of teachers is to help students establish goals and cultivate a sense of happiness and achievement that helps them reach their dream universities.

I look forward to Cathy integrating her rich teaching and management experiences into Haileybury Tianjin. We look forward to her working with Senior School staff to cultivate students' international vision and critical thinking, to help them adapt to the changing world and become international talents, and help them achieve excellent academic results.

Our Haileybury community wishes Cathy every success in her work at Haileybury Tianjin.
